VOCM News is in the running for another award—this one from the umbrella association for electronic media.
RTDNA Canada has announced the finalists for Eastern Canada, and VOCM has been nominated for its 10:00 a.m. newscast on July 17, 2024.
That was a very busy morning in St. John’s for a couple of reasons. The body of a woman was found in a suitcase—not an everyday occurrence, to say the least. VOCM News reporter Linda Swain, who was in the area but off duty, provided live reports from the scene.
Adding to the calamity was a protest by fish harvesters, who were busy giving away 2,000 pounds of cod nearby at the harbourfront.
The same newscast, anchored by Brian Madore, has also been nominated for an Atlantic Journalism Award.
The RTDNA will announce their award winners on June 2, while the AJAs will reveal theirs on June 7.
