Spraying to control mosquitos and black flies in central Labrador starts this week.
The program, which aims to reduce mosquito and black fly larvae in their habitats before they emerge as biting adults, will continue until late August.
5-Wing Goose Bay says the breeding sites will be treated from the ground and air with Bti, a biological insecticide.
The military says Bti is a very safe insecticide, and is registered and used in Canada, and safety standards prevent any exposure of the population to the product. It is entirely biodegradable in a matter of a few days.
G.D.G. Environment has been hired to conduct and monitor the program.
