The Conception Bay South Recreation Complex, which houses the pool and squash courts, is closing for the summer to make way for a significant upgrade.
The renovation will focus on all changeroom and washroom facilities with a new layout to remove physical barriers and enhance accessibility.
Mayor Darrin Bent says the facility, located in Long Pond, will be a modernized space that better meets the needs of all users with more private changing areas for inclusiveness and comfort.
Bent says there will be no changes to the pool or squash courts.
The facility was built in the late 1980s, so Mayor Bent says the upgrade was due. The town had hoped to spend about $300,000 but the tender came in about $130,000 more than that.
The complex closes Sunday, June 8 and will remain closed for several weeks.
