A man has been arrested after a bizarre incident in Labrador West in the wee hours today in which a car swerved into oncoming traffic and toward a marked police car.

The driver did not stop, choosing instead to flee from police on Grenfell Drive in Wabush at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was located a second time, but again the driver hit the gas. An RNC officer knew who he was, so they went to a residence in Labrador City and, sure enough, the suspect vehicle was in the driveway.

They arrested a 38-year-old, who left the house without further incident.

Charges include flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and refusing the breathalyzer. He was also ticketed for excessive speeding and lost his license.

He was released to appear in court later.

The RNC are asking the public to check CCTV footage to help in their investigation.
