The City of St. John’s is actively monitoring traffic at the intersection of Columbus Drive and Mundy Pond Road to see if a dedicated left turn signal is required at all four stops.
The intersection currently has a left turning signal for traffic travelling southbound on Columbus Drive and turning left onto Mundy Pond Road.
The city says it is conducting a traffic volume count to assess the need for dedicated left-turn arrows for the three remaining areas of the intersection.
In the meantime, the city is also reviewing recent collision data to identify any possible emerging trends at the intersection of Empire Avenue and Ropewalk Lane.
The busy area currently has a pedestrian / half signal to allow people to cross Empire on foot, but those on Ropewalk waiting to turn left onto Empire sometimes have to wait an extended period for traffic to clear in order to do so.
That’s led to public concerns about drivers possibly making hasty decisions to get to where they need to go.
