NL Health Services says it is continuing to work through the appropriate processes in laying unclaimed bodies to rest.
The health authority took the extraordinary measure of posting the names of deceased who have yet to be claimed by next of kin for burial after the usual process to find family members proved unsuccessful.
The names are only posted for five days, after which time the health authority can, under updated legislation, lay the remains to rest in a respectful manner.
A number of community groups and well-meaning residents came forward when the first list of names were published, and the health authority says it is willing to work with those groups.
NLHS won’t say how many of the 26 names published late last month have been buried by the health authority, or how many were successfully claimed.
