The Baie Verte Regional Task Force say they’re not ready to handle the incoming economic activity.
Shannon Lewis says the region already has busy forestry, fishery and tourism sectors, and he says mining projects will need action on building community services.
The task force was created to find the gaps in the service and lobby the government for more service.
He says the region has a lot of work to do before more projects can start.
“The current situation is not sufficient. There is a lack of daycare support. The school was built for a declining population and is already at capacity. There is a lack of accommodations for long-term or short-term workers to come into the region,” he told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly.
“These are major issues.”
