A research group compiling information on patient access to family physicians wants to hear from you.
OurCare, an initiative to engage the public to help build a better primary care system, says more than 6.5 million people in Canada don’t have access to primary care.
That translates to more than one in five people, and that’s way too many says Toronto-based physician and researcher Dr. Tara Kiran.
That statistic prompted the creation of an OurCare Standard, “which is basically six statements that describe what it is that we heard from people over and over again. The fact that everybody feels that people should have primary care in this country, there should be timely, ongoing (care), that people should have access to their medical records, that care should be accountable to communities, things like that.”
OurCare is encouraging Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to fill out its online survey to see what access to primary care looks like. The deadline for submissions has been extended to July 30th.
