From Bell Island to coastal Ireland, a message in a bottle has been found over a decade after it was sent off into the Atlantic Ocean.
Kate Gay was walking on a beach on the Dingle Peninsula when she noticed a wine bottle washed up along the shore, with a piece of paper inside.
Instead of opening the bottle on the beach, she waited until that night during a meeting for a local community project.
Inside was a letter, dated Sept. 14, 2012, from a couple named Anita and Brad who tossed the bottle into the sea after a day trip to Bell Island.
Gay says finding the bottle and letter 13 years after the fact was “amazing.”
She says they made a toast to Anita and Brad at the meeting.
Later that night the story was posted on social media, and within an hour Anita had been found.
