A new study from the Canadian Automobile Association has found that many jurisdictions are lacking when it comes to regulations for e-bikes and e-scooters.
The study was commissioned by the CAA and conducted by the Traffic Injury Research Foundation.
It found that many jurisdictions have not established road safety rules for the devices, such as speed limits and restrictions on where people can and cannot ride, and that safety information and guidance is limited.
Where regulations do exist, the report finds that there is “encouraging alignment” and a “strong foundation” to build on.
Spokesperson Julia Kent says there should be rules around speed limits and where people can and cannot ride e-bikes and scooters. She says people are not clear as to what the rules are for the devices.
