U.S. President Donald Trump says a trade deal with Canada may not be reached before the August 1st trade deadline, and that Canada may just have to pay.
Trump made the remarks as he was about to embark on a trip to meet with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“We haven’t really had a lot of luck with Canada. I think Canada could be one which could just pay tariffs,” Trump told reporters today.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has said he will only accept the best deal for Canada.
Trump sent Prime Minister Mark Carney a letter indicating that 35 per cent tariffs would be imposed on Canadian goods if a deal with Ottawa can’t be reached by next Friday.
