The SPCA in St. John’s broke ground yesterday on a new, state-of-the-art facility to house rescued animals and pets in need of homes.
Jim Hynes, the chair of the Way Home campaign to raise the $7 million needed, says the new facility was sorely needed and includes a specialized H-VAC system.
“Each animal will have its own air supply,” says Hynes, “so, if an animal comes in and it’s sick, it doesn’t make all of the rest of the animals sick, which happens quite often.” Hynes says the system is an expensive one and was designed by a company, “that’s all they do, and they’ve done a top shelf job on it. This is as good as it gets. There’s no better in Canada or the United States than what’s going to be here, and it’s made right here.”
Hynes is hopeful that the building will be finished and ready to open by the spring, but they’re still looking for just over $1 million to take them over the finish line, something he anticipates they’ll achieve.
