An evacuation order has been issued for communities in the Conception Bay North area as a wildfire grows to just one kilometre from multiple communities.

The department believes the fire is running north and south.

Water bombers and helicopters are working from above, while ground crews work from below to douse the flames.

Towns of Small Point, Adam’s Cove, Blackhead, Broad Cove, and Kingston have all been ordered to leave.

A reception centre has been set up at the Persalvic School Complex in Victoria for displaced residents.
