The RNC say a shelter-in-place in the Crosbie Road area of St. John’s Thursday night was related to the shooting on Ropewalk Lane earlier in the day, and that two people are now in custody.
Police first responded to the Burger King on Ropewalk Lane just after 2:30 Thursday morning where they found a 40-year-old man with serious injuries.
The suspect vehicle fled the area before police arrived.

Throughout the rest of the day the RNC received numerous reports of erratic driving and hit-and-run collisions involving a pickup truck which matched the description of the one seen leaving the area after the shooting.
Officers located the suspect vehicle on Cashin Avenue just after 10 p.m. but it failed to stop, leading to a short pursuit that had to be abandoned for safety reasons.
The pickup was located a short time later on Crosbie Road after it had crashed.
Two suspects fled on foot, triggering a shelter-in-place order for the area. Several units of the RNC, and the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team responded to the area.
They were taken into custody around 1 a.m..
Investigators are trying to piece together the movements of the vehicle, a 2007 two-toned burgundy and silver F-150, between 1:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. Thursday. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC. at 709-729-8000.
