A Seal Cove resident is doing her part to help keep four-legged fire evacuees safe.
Katrina Butler of Sliding K Ranch had to evacuate her horses due to the fire in Holyrood. The animals ended up in five different barns in and around St. John’s.
When the Paddy’s Pond fire forced similar evacuations, it was time for her to return the favour.
“My horses are outside 24/7, so that meant that all of our barns were open so there’s 24 stalls in the barns and then we have a shelter that has three stalls, and I was able to put up some temporary stalls in the indoor arena.”
Now, she’s taken in dozens of animals ranging from horses to goats.
“There was 36 horses, one donkey and 22 goats.”
