Trinity-Conception RCMP are being assisted in their investigation into the fires in the Small Point – Broad Cove – Blackhead and Adam’s Cove area by investigators from Major Crimes and their General Investigation Section.
Area residents say numerous fires have been set in the region since May 7 when a major fire caused extensive damage in Small Point and Adam’s Cove – destroying at least 20 properties.
A number of fires were reported after that, and then came the one on August 3, which spread quicky in high winds and extreme drought conditions, burning through nine communities.

That fire is still burning, and the number of structures lost is in the hundreds. Many residents still don’t know when they’ll be able to return to their home communities to assess the damage.
In the meantime, there have been reports that some people are taking advantage of the fire situation to loot evacuated homes.
RCMP say an ATV and other stolen property have been recovered by police. Efforts are underway to identify the property and return it to its rightful owners. The investigation continues.
