Wildlife enforcement officials are investigating a possible poaching incident near the Cowboy Creek cabin area in Lab West.
The department says officers noticed an oddly placed pile of dirt and disturbed vegetation at the end of a trail while on patrol on August 7th.
Black fur was seen protruding from the pile, where officers located the carcass of a black bear.
It’s believed that the bear was illegally killed and discarded sometime between July 25th and August 7th. The black bear season is not open in Labrador at that time.
The carcass was found on the southern edge of the transmission line next to Cowboy Creek.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wabush Wildlife Detachment at 709-944-4897.
