A Labour Day rally in St. John’s saw workers sail aboard governments who force workers who are in a legal strike position back on the job, and the favoured political party promising to end such practices.
Addressing a crowd of workers, NDP Leader Jim Dinn announced a suite of labour protections that his party would put in place.
Businesses which win government contracts would have to hire local and workers’ compensation income would go up to 90 per cent from 85.
There would be more safeguards for people considering forming a union, and it would be tougher for companies to higher replacement workers during labour disruptions.
