A long time municipal leader on the Burin Peninsula will not be seeking re-election this fall.

Grand Bank Mayor Rex Matthews says after careful reflection he has decided not to run again. He says serving as mayor has been “one of the greatest honors and privileges” of his life, and he’s grateful for the trust and support he’s received during his time in office.

He thanked the many “talented and skilled people” who have contributed to the town, which he says is in an excellent financial position – debt-free and with “significant financial reserves” that will keep the town “fiscally stable for years to come.”
