The umbrella organization for workers in the skilled trades has set benchmarks on how much work on major projects should be done in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Trades NL, which represents some 14,000 skilled trades members, has done a deep analysis on the economic and employment impact of major resource projects in the province over the last 35 years.
Bob Fiander, the executive director, says governments should follow the key declaration in the Atlantic Accord, that Newfoundland and Labrador must be the principal beneficiary of offshore development.
Trades NL says the majority of activity from future resource projects should happen in the province: 68 per cent for oil and gas, 86 per cent for hydro.
The organization is calling on all candidates in the upcoming provincial election to commit to working toward those thresholds.
