RCMP have brought in divers to help out in a search to determine if a vehicle left the causeway linking Twillingate and New World Island this morning.

At this time, investigators have not confirmed that a vehicle ended up in the water.

Twillingate RCMP received a report around 7:15 this morning from a construction worker who spotted possible vehicle debris on the road near the causeway and was concerned that a vehicle may have left the road and ended up in the water.

The RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team was sent to the scene along with the Summerford and Twillingate fire departments, an ambulance and the Canadian Coast Guard.

RCMP say the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the community as the investigation continues.
