Trial dates have finally been set in a St. John’s manslaughter case dating back more than three years.
The incident occurred on January 2nd of 2022.
RNC officers responded to a disturbance at a home on Hunt’s Lane, in the city’s east end.
There, they found a 55-year-old woman with what they described as “a serious injury,” though police have not said if a weapon was involved.
She was rushed to hospital but died six weeks later.
Just over a year after that, in March of 2023, Tanner Oliver, now 29, was arrested and charged with manslaughter, which suggests a homicide occurred, but was not intended.
Police have said the accused and victim knew each other, but have not said how.
The case has been subject to numerous delays, including a recent psychiatric assessment which deemed Oliver fit to stand trial.
That’s now set for March of next year, three years after Oliver was charged, and well past the 18-month Jordan time limit, though it’s not clear if that will be a factor in the case.
