Elections NL is pulling back the curtain on some of the improvements they have made ahead of next month’s provincial election.
Chief Electoral Officer Travis Wooley highlights the changes that have been made since the controversial 2021 election, mostly relating to back-end processes and training that modernize the way Elections NL operates
One such change is the use of software that can detect when a voter has submitted multiple registration applications.
On the front end of things, Wooley says one of the biggest changes for this election is more services in each of the districts to give people more options when they go out and vote.
He says there will be a 30 per cent increase in voting locations for the advance polls, as well as more special ballot and elections offices.
Wooley addresses concerns that some people’s confidence in the system may have been hurt following the controversial 2021 elections.
He says the circumstances are different and the province is not in the middle of the pandemic. Wooley says they have added more resources out in the field and there are more ways people can contact Elections NL offices.
