NLHS confirms it has reversed a decision regarding leave restrictions as the new health information system CorCare, goes live early in the new year.
The health authority says the reversal is based on concerns raised by employees, as well as their respective unions.
NLHS say consultations were held with the unions before the announcement and further consultations with unions representing health care workers will take place.
Those consultations, says the health authority, will help them to come up with a new plan to ensure that staff and physicians can participate in the required training while continuing to deliver care to patients.
The Registered Nurses Union was among the first to raise the alarm soon after the memo was issued to employees yesterday.
RNU President Yvette Coffey says they were not consulted, but were called into a short meeting and informed of what NLHS had decided to do. Coffey calls that “dismissive and disrespectful.”
While the union is pleased that NLHS has reversed the decision, it cautions that a pattern of announcing decisions and responding after a public outcry, “cannot continue.”
