An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged after RNC received a report over the weekend of someone pointing a firearm on a popular Corner Brook walking trail.

RNC were contacted just after 9:30 Saturday night and descended on the trailway system in Margaret Bowater Park.

A man matching the description of the suspect was located in the area of Valley Road and Elford Avenue around 11:30.

Police say he was in possession of a long barrel BB gun, pellets and hunting-style knife.

Frank Major is facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm and using an imitation firearm while committing an offence.

The accused was held in custody pending a court appearance.
