The NDP says it will make good on a $68-million promise to remove HST from all forms of home heating if elected.
Leader Jim Dinn says the move would save about 10 per cent on heating bills, and cover electric, propane, oil, wood and other forms of home heat.
So far, the Liberals have already announced similar plans, vowing to cut HST on electric only, while the PCs denounced Liberal hopefuls for agreeing with the idea.
Dinn says both the Liberals and PCs already had the chance to lower heating bills.
“Seven months ago, we put forward a private member’s resolution which would remove the HST, the government portion of the HST. They argued against it, MHA after MHA from (Progressive) Conservative and Liberal, (MHAs) argued against it,” he told reporters.
“In the end, I’m not convinced that if the Liberals form government or the PCs form government that we’ll see the removal of the HST from all forms of home heating.”
