The President of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association says they’ll be looking for greater compensation for officers when contract negotiations resume next year.
The federal government has unveiled plans to hire more RCMP across the country, while the incoming PC government has promised to hire 21 new RNC officers.
RNCA President Staff Sergeant Mike Summers says in order to recruit new officers, compensation has to be increased.
“We believe and hope that we may be able to attract some members to come back home, be it if they’re experienced officers with other police departments wanting to come back home to Newfoundland and Labrador to work or otherwise. We have contact negotiations coming up next year, and I believe that a good-looking contract would entice members to come back to Newfoundland and Labrador.”
