Beothuk Lake, one of the province’s largest natural bodies of water, is experiencing low levels not seen in a long time.
Satellite images show the lake bed clearly exposed in some areas, particularly near Millertown where the lake feeds into the Exploits River.
The latest government data shows that water levels through late September and up to mid-October are 16 feet below average.
Since 2009, the average level of Beothuk Lake at Indian Point has been 153.7 metres. As of October 20th, the level was at 148.83 metres.
Near-real time data shows water elevation levels on the Exploits near Millertown have dropped by almost a foot over the last month.
