The MP for Labrador wants a deeper investigation following last week’s mixup which resulted in commercial aircraft not being able to land in Wabush for a couple of days. That left people scrambling to get to medical and other appointments, and mining companies trying to figure out how to move their employees.
The suspension of commercial flights was due to a lack of firefighting and crash rescue services at the airport.
The situation was resolved but MP Phil Earle remains frustrated and baffled as to how the restriction came about in the first place. He’s calling for a ministerial review of the decision-making process, oversight mechanisms and communication between the relevant authorities.
He’s also asking Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon for a formal update on the long-term stability and staffing of firefighting and emergency response services at Wabush Airport.
