A low-pressure system with hurricane-force strength is set to pound much of the island and parts of Labrador tomorrow into Wednesday.
Environment Canada has wind warnings in effect for several areas including the Avalon and Burin Peninsula with gusts up to 100 km/h in some areas.
Meteorologist Melissa Field says heavy rain and high winds will start on the southwest coast tomorrow morning and spread to the Avalon, central and parts of the west coast around lunchtime.
Rainfall amounts range between 30 – 50 mm for most regions with the south coast expected to be closer to the 40+ mm range.
Field says the rain will move out Wednesday morning, but the winds may stick around until the evening.
Parts of coastal Labrador could see snowfall as a result of the system.
