Marine Atlantic has cancelled crossings for tomorrow and Wednesday morning in anticipation of tomorrow’s storm, and they’re keeping a close eye on another storm system forecast for later this week.
The remnants of Hurricane Melissa briefly disrupted service last week, the backlog from which is now being cleared.
Darrell Mercer says it’s been a relatively quiet fall thus far, but now they’re trying to clear traffic and keep things moving as it’s safe to do so, with two more back-to-back storms on the way.
He says tomorrow’s system will bring high winds, preventing them from sailing. They are also monitoring another storm system that’s forecast to come in later this week. “That one looks like its going to have some significant winds with it as well” says Mercer.
That means some crossings could be cancelled Thursday and Friday as well, but he’s encouraging travelers to watch for their latest updates. In the meantime, Marine Atlantic is looking at a potential weather window Wednesday night and Thursday morning when they might be able to get some traffic moving.
