The MHA for Harbour Grace – Port de Grave is seeking an update on the status of funding to help with the restoration of the statue of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart – stolen from Harbour Grace earlier this year, and later found cut into pieces.
In May, then-minister of women and gender equity Pam Parsons announced a total of $50,000 to help repair the famous statue, but the town hasn’t received any updates on when the funds will be released and the work can get underway.
“There’s no clarity whether or not that money is still going to come forward,” says Parsons, who calls the statue a major tourism draw for the town.
