A recount of all ballots cast in the District of Topsail-Paradise is scheduled to begin this morning at Supreme Court in St. John’s.
The order was made by Justice Fonse Faour on Friday, who in the same breath dismissed applications for recounts in two other districts.
The judge accepted the word of a scrutineer who said she saw first-hand irregularities involving ballots for Topsail-Paradise, unlike the other districts.
PCs Jeff Dwyer in Placentia-West Bellevue and Mark Butt in Lewisporte-Twillingate, will be sworn in later today.
A total of 102 votes separate incumbent PC MHA-elect Paul Dinn and Liberal Dan Bobbett, with the NDP’s Tyler Bourne placing a distant third in Topsail-Paradise.
Neither the general public nor media are permitted in the room during the recount process, which is expected to take about two days.
The PCs would lose their majority government status if they lose the seat.
