Three Liberal MHAs have requested a meeting with the Iron Ore Company of Canada following reports that the company has laid off a number of its staff.
The news was first reported by AllNewfoundlandLabrador, which cites an internal memo sent out to staff.
They also quote a source close to the situation who says a “significant number of staff” are affected.
Now, Liberal MHAs Fred Hutton, Bernard Davis, and Lisa Dempster have requested a meeting with the company to see what gives.
Hutton says they recognize the value of responsible business practices and ensuring a successful future at IOC, but are urging them to pursue a reduced workforce as a “last resort.”
