Deloitte, which authored the province’s Human Health Resources Plan, will be reporting back to government on its findings after several citations in the document were found to be fake.
The news was first reported by The Independent over the weekend. The Independent says at least four citations in the report do not appear to exist, raising questions about the use of AI.
In a statement to VOCM News, the Department of Health says Deloitte has acknowledged that there are incorrect citations in the report, however, they stand by the conclusions and findings in the document.
The department says the company has committed to “expeditiously conducting a full review of all the citations, and will be required to report back to government with its findings.”
It’s the second government-commissioned report this year found to contain fake citations – the first being the Education Accord released earlier this year.
NDP leader Jim Dinn says he is “disgusted” by news that the plan contains errors that point to the use of AI.
He says the use of AI on such an important report calls into question the integrity of the work, and “adds a level of distrust amongst healthcare workers, and the public.”
He is calling on government to implement regulations when it comes to the use of Artificial Intelligence.
