RCMP confirm that a civilian complaint has been filed, and a review is underway, concerning the alleged detention of a woman by an off-duty RCMP officer at the Pottle Centre in St. John’s last March.
According to one of her caregivers, the 34-year-old woman in question has an intellectual delay, and functions at the level of a seven-year-old child. Her diagnoses include autism and a seizure disorder among other things.
The alleged incident occurred last March, and involved an off-duty RCMP officer who was reportedly connected to one of the employees of the Pottle Centre.
RCMP cannot speak to the nature of the complaint or the potential outcomes.
The Civilian Review and Complaints Commission is an independent agency that deals with complaints made by the public about the conduct of RCMP members.
