Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador says more needs to be done throughout communities to increase the availability of all types of housing.
That was one of the big takeaways from the annual MNL conference, according to president Amy Coady.
She says municipalities need to attract more people to help them be sustainable, and housing is a big part of that.
Coady states that their members are open to developing many different types of housing including duplexes, apartment buildings, tiny homes, and garden suites.
She says it is important to have homes available for new people to move into.
As an example, she says someone who has a temporary position may only be looking to rent until they know if they will be staying permanently. As well, Coady says it is important to have options to people to downsize their homes, which in turn opens up larger houses for families.
