Premier Tony Wakeham is in Ottawa meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss a number of issues of importance to the province.
The premier told the Board of Trade in his State of the Province address yesterday that defence spending is high on his agenda.
He says he intends to make a “clear case” that Ottawa correct “years of neglect” by increasing defence spending in this province. Newfoundland and Labrador ranks “dead last” when it comes to defence spending in Canada, and “it’s not even close.” He says Newfoundland and Labrador receives one third of what New Brunswick receives and less than 10 per cent of what Nova Scotia receives, and “PEI receives more than Newfoundland and Labrador.”
