Old Man Winter took his first swipe at the island yesterday, providing people with a quick reminder of what it’s like to navigate wintry conditions.
The CEO of Safety NL, Sean Kelly, says while drivers have to make certain adjustments, the same is true of pedestrians as slips and falls become more of a risk.
“They should be very careful about slippery sidewalks,” says Kelly. He also recommends that walkers don the proper footwear and bright or reflective clothing to make sure they’re visible, especially after dark. “If you do, for any reason, have to step out onto the road, always walk facing traffic,” and try to maintain eye contact with drivers to make sure that they can see you.
