The minister of health has directed NL Health Services to address issues regarding reproductive health services at the hospital in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Earlier this week, the Nunatsiavut Government stated that they are “deeply concerned” by complaints raised by patients and families about services being offered at the facility.
Acknowledging that it takes courage for people to come forward with their experiences, they encourage anyone with an issue to follow the formal complaint process so that issues can be properly investigated and addressed.
Lela Evans notes that people who have been raising complaints for about a year don’t feel like their concerns are being addressed.
Evans heard of the issues while in opposition, and now as a minister she feels that concrete steps need to be taken so people can see that something is being done.
She says they need to restore trust in the system, because they cannot allow patients and Indigenous governments to be concerned about their health care. “There has been a real failure here to manage the communications and to actually address the issues.”
