Bursey’s Bus Service is launching a special initiative to provide accessible transportation for children who need it to go on field trips on the Avalon Peninsula.
The program is called Kayla Cares.
It is named in memory of Kayla Bursey, the sister of owner Evan Bursey.
She was born with significant medical needs and would have required wheelchair access for her entire life.
Bursey’s says the program will offer two free accessible bus trips per year to 65 schools on the Avalon.
It is being offered to schools in St. John’s, Mount Pearl, Paradise, CBS, Torbay, the Southern Shore, Bell Island, Portugal Cove St. Philips, Pouch Cove, Avondale, and Holyrood.
The program is expected to cost $250,000 over five years.
Bursey’s will formally launch the event at Queen Elizabeth Regional High in CBS at 10 a.m.
