The official opposition is calling for transparency from the provincial government about affordability measure promises they made on the campaign trail, ahead of Tuesday’s fiscal update.
Finance Minister Craig Pardy will deliver the update on the province’s fiscal situation on Tuesday.
Finance Critic Sarah Stoodley reminds that the last fiscal update, delivered in August, projected a deficit of $626-million.
She expects that number has likely grown due to a drop in oil prices and spending to fight last summer’s wildfires.
Knowing what the deficit was, she argues, the PCs made $1-billion in campaign promises that they now have to live up to.
Stoodley says the promises made included a number of affordability promises. She is calling on minister Pardy to be transparent with people about when they will get the tax relief that they voted for.
