Concerns have been raised about the number of ‘Code White’ – or violent situation – alerts at Pleasant View Towers, which houses long-term mental health patients.
NL Health Services says Pleasant View Towers, a long term care facility in the city’s east end, opened in 2014, and a satellite long-term mental health care unit has been operating in the facility since that time.
Concerns have been raised about the number of violent incident alerts at the facility, leading to questions about the role of the new Mental Health and Addictions Centre.
The health authority says the new hospital is an acute care facility and does not include long-term housing.
Prior to the closure of the old Waterford Hospital, NLHS says “significant” efforts were made to ensure there were no patients living at the Waterford and the last remaining residential patients were discharged to be supported by programs established in the community.
NLHS says the number of Code White alerts at Pleasant View Towers varies day-to-day, and there are procedures and protocols in place to respond to those situations as they occur.
