Lieutenant Governor Joan Marie Aylward is throwing open the doors of Government House for the New Year’s Day Levee.
It’s an ancient tradition in which people are invited to a reception on the afternoon of the first day of the year.
Traditionally it was held to bring people together to share the latest news from abroad.
The first recorded Levée in Canada was held in 1646 in Quebec City, and the tradition was picked up by British Colonial Governors.
All are welcome at today’s celebration, which takes place from 2:30 to 4:30.
