The Port of Argentia is benefiting from a U.S. freeze on offshore wind projects imposed by President Donald Trump.
The companies involved in five major offshore wind projects on the U.S. east coast have filed lawsuits against the U.S. government. They include Norway’s Equinor.
In the meantime, massive 120 meter monopiles – the towers that hold the turbine blades aloft, are being stored at the Port of Argentia.
CEO Scott Penney says as a storage facility, the freeze has created an opportunity for the port.
“Prime example,” says Penney, “we were supposed to, in 2026 receive around 12 monopiles, but because of the stoppage…we’re scheduled to get 40. So, that creates a lot more work, a lot more demand, and a lot more exposure for the Port of Argentia.”
He says instead of going direct to field, the monopiles manufactured in Europe are being shipped to Argentia until the courts rule on the matter, or President Trump “changes his mind.”
