BW Offshore is seeking expressions of interest for the fabrication of a utility module for the Bay du Nord project, but what that means for the project and for the Newfoundland construction industry remains to be seen.
The topside utility module is designed to house essential utility systems for seawater treatment, among other things.

Local offshore industry analyst Rob Strong says the EOI is the first step in finding out “who’s out there” in terms of contractors able to do the work.
Whether this means Bay du Nord is a go, Strong says it’s far too early to say.
He says the benefits plan has not yet been agreed upon by government and Equinor. He believes the objective in the EOI is to line up the contracts, “but certainly, no-one’s signing any contracts until the benefits agreement gets finalized,” the discussions for which are underway.
