Energy Minister Lloyd Parrott is thanking the public for doing their part in helping to prevent the need for rolling blackouts over the weekend.
The warning went out after frazil ice at the Bay d’Espoir Hydro facility prevented power generation at the island’s largest generating station.
Divers managed to clear the intakes on the weekend, restoring operations. The Power Warning was lifted a short time later.
Minister Parrott praised NL Hydro and Newfoundland Power for keeping the public apprised of the latest information.
“Spectacular job keeping it at ground level” says Parrott, “so that people really understood what was going on.”
The Power Watch has since been lifted.
