Memorial University says it stands by its assertion that its plans to divest itself of a number of pieces of real estate will not involve any immediate job losses.
The university announced plans last week to move away from four pieces of property, including its Signal Hill campus, the GEO Centre, its Harlow campus in the U.K. and the printing services building.
The university was responding to suggestions made by Bill Kavanagh that MUN is publicly stating there will be no layoffs, but are quietly confirming that jobs will be eliminated.
Memorial University says no positions have been eliminated as part of the transition, and “it is inaccurate to suggest that job losses are planned for any particular employee group as a result” of the decision.
MUN says in the event of any future job changes or losses, it will work with the affected employees to explore their options for potential redeployment within the university or within the bounds of their collective agreement.
