The Premier says he is “very pleased” with the progress that has been made with Equinor on the Bay du Nord project.
The project has been on shaky ground for a few years. The company put it on the shelf back in 2023 due to cost increases.
Last year, Equinor announced that it had found a “path forward” and indicated some significant changes had been made to the project Even with that, however, there is no guarantee that the company will give the project the final green light.
The situation was further complicated last fall when the PCs took power, as they want most of the infrastructure work to be done in this province – something Equinor was not intending.
Tony Wakeham states that he can say one thing with confidence.
“Equinor wants to develop Bay du Nord, we want Bay du Nord to be developed, the federal government wants Bay du Nord to be developed. So no we’ve got to make sure we get it done.”
