The MHA for Labrador West says the premier is committed to electrifying Labrador, developing Gull Island and the province’s hydro resources.
Joe Power, who attended MINEx in Lab West, says the topic of a third transmission line to help energize mining development remains a key concern.
Despite concerns raised by the energy critic, Power says no action was taken by the previous government.
He says the issue is not a new one. It’s been discussed for at least 15 years, yet the previous government failed to act. He says a third line isn’t only necessary to expand mining in the region, but also to meet the needs of a growing community.
Meanwhile, the question remains; what about the MOU?
Power says government remains committed to a “careful and responsible approach” to an MOU with Hydro Quebec on expansion of the Upper Churchill and future hydro development in Labrador.
